Thrift Urban were called in to refurbish my friends house in Wandsworth. Because they ware a charity they can do the job exempt of VAT - and therefore much cheaper than their competitors.

They were absolutely dreadful!!! They ran over time - more than a month - and even then failed to complete the job. They refused to go back and attend to the faults - tiles lifting, toilet unstable, taps leaking, shower not working, rubbish left all over the flat, etc. etc. Eventually my friend had to call in another company to finish the job.

They are rude, nasty and arrogant and their complaint's procedure is a joke! It is rather ironic that Thrift Urban's mission statement is to help the "needy" and the "aged"!! In other words, the most vulnerable who are unable to complain!!!

They also quote themselves as "Making life easier for people in need". To that statement, all I can add is that they made my firend's life HELL!

TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST!

I wish to thank the author of this review.

I approached Thrift Urban to carry out some work at my flat but then came across this review and mentioned it to Thrift Urban. They told me they had sued you and hence your nasty remarks. I couldn't believe what I was reading!!! And they seemed so pleased about it.

So I gave them a piece of my mind and wrote:

Builders already have a bad reputation. If added to that there is a complaint from a consumer which you have been unable to resolve - that spells bad news... But when you then state that you are suing a consumer - that's it!!! I am a consumer too - and do not want to face the same predicament, irrespective of who is right or wrong! A charity sueing a member of the public? Shame on you! You have shattered my faith in charities! If any doubts remained, I am now convinced I want nothing to do with your company!

To the author: Don't give in - and good luck!

Frederick - grow up! Do you really imagine that the public are all lovely innocent people, while all builders (and everyone else) are crooks?! If you do then you are amazinly naive.

The sad fact is that a lot of good, honest businesses go out of business because of unpaid bills, because the public doesn't pay up. The only way they can hope to get their money back is to try and pursue them through the courts. What's worse, sites like this let the public 'have a go' at companies without any proof or verification - they can just make unfounded allegations. How would you like it if all your friends/colleagues could type your name in on the web and find claims that you're a liar, and you can't do anything to defend yourself? (But then, maybe that's why you're hiding behind a false name.)

Well fortunately for Federick you'll be glad to know the Federation Of Masterbuilders petitioned the scam builders to Court & the High Courts ordered them into Compulsory Liquidation on 13th January 2010. Please check on website:www.companieshouse.org.uk. Company No: 03612855. Had this company been a bonified building company clients would pay because they would be satisfied with there work! And you wouldn't get associates of the company making replies to justified complaints by saying "Grow up!" and still illegally trading!

Well I had the exact same experience as the person lodging the original complaint.. As soon as I put any complaint to them or even queried on quality of work being carried out, they became arrogant rude and intiidating. BTW a Mr Newman was named to me as the managing director of Thrift.....

I NOTICE THE PERSON MAKING ALL THE MALICIOUS COMMENTS ABOUT THRIFT ARE FROM ONE AND THE SAME PERSON. I CHECKED AND THRIFT ARE NOT IN LIQUIDATION AT ALL. I ALSO HAVE LOOKED AT THE COMMENTS FROM THE BLOGGERS ON THIS SITE AND OTHER SITES AND IT IS ONE AND THE SAME PERSON. THE BLOGGER IS A WOMEN CALLED LYNDSEY BELL BUT SHE LIKES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. SHE LIVES IN SPAIN AND SENDS LOTS OF MALICIOUS BLOGS. I have recently used Thrift Urban for some major works in my house. I am quite surprised to read negative reviews as the work I hired them to do has been completed on time, to a decent standard and workers were professional at all times. I found them to be very friendly and helpful. I am aware that there are a lot of "cowboy" building companies out there but Thrift Handy is not one of them. In the past I dealt with quite a few building and handyman companies that did work of a very poor standard, did not show up and tried to charge me extortionate rates! Thrifthandy's charges were reasonable and what's important - the work was done properly (something I cannot say about a lot of other builders out there!!).
