Business Review: Postal Gold

shireen jamil — Fri, 06/11/2009 - 8:48pm

On Oct.2nd 2009, as I am disabled and would find it difficult to go from Jeweller to Jeweller comparing payments, I sent over £1000 of Gold Jewellery to Postal Gold, who assure you that they value your Jewellery within 48hrs. and send you a Cheque by Return of Post. I sent the Gold Jewellery in an Envelope sent by them insured by them for £500.

They also provide their legal obligation to give you a seven day period before they melt the Gold down so if you do not agree with their valuation, you receive your Jewellery back in full and intact. Most of it had been valued and was pure 22 carat Indian Gold handed down over generations,t  which is why I knew what my Jewellery was worth.

They provide you with an ID NO.so you can "Track Your Gold Online" at their Website. From the Start, my ID NO.kept coming up saying no Jewellery exists under that number. On Oct.8th 2009, now extremely concerned, I telephoned Postal Gold. They confirmed my ID NO.and agreed that although they HAD received my Jewellery, it had gone missing and that I should call the following Wednesday (a week from this first call)and they were sure my Jewellery would have been found by then, or I would be compensated.

I kept Tracking the Gold and phoning them with no joy. On Oct.15th 2009 I contacted Consumer Service. I wrote to Postal Gold informing them of my complaint. They emailed me back within moments, telling me they were doing their UTMOST to locate my Jewellery. Out of the blue on Oct.17th 2009 I received an undated letter in an Envelope without a dated Postmark with a Cheque, dated Oct.7th 2009, attached to the letter saying, "Congratulations..here is a Cheque for £16.40 for my Gold Jewellery".

It was a weekend and I was distraught as the Offices were shut until Monday. My disability involves a brain injury whereby I get chronic blinding migraines which Stress exacerbates to the point where I pass out and begin to lose my balance and have falls. Postal Gold have caused me horrendous distress by the lies they have told again and again expecting me to swallow them and take no action, as I expect a lot of people do. They are the worst kind of insidious BULLIES on the market and should be brought to book by the Government as they are ripping of countless people such as I.

To continue, I phoned them on Monday and asked how without their knowledge had they sent me a Cheque on Oct,7th 2009 whilst sending me an email on October 15th telling me how hard they were searching for my Gold. Their answer was, they did'nt know. I called again and told them I had now reported them to Customer Trading. So they told me the ID NO. I had was wrong and gave me an ID NO.I had never heard of and said because of the confusion my Gold Jewellery had been melted down since they did not hear from me within the seven day period. How could they, when they were telling me every day that my Jewellery was missing.

Then I looked at their Cheque on which they had mis-spelt my name. This made the Cheque null and void and I emailed them that I still had a seven day period to ask for my Jewellery back as even though I received their Cheque FIFTEEN days after I had posted my Jewellery to them, the Cheque was not legal as it was addressed to Shireen Jimil, not Shireen Jamil. This gave them a further idea of how to continue to swindle me. Upon hearing this they now told me my Jewellery had all been melted down and I was not informed because of their mis-spelling my sur-name.

They had by now lost all credibility in my eyes. Every day it was a different version of why my Jewellery had been melted down without my consent. So I emailed them that I was going to go to the Papers with my story and seek Legal Aid to sue them. This prompted them to sending me a "CLAIM FORM". I was supposed to describe each item (the way I had to on the Original Envelope I sent Postal Gold my Jewellery in) and tell them the value of it. I KNEW the value of three of the items as they were 22 Carat Indian Gold and had been valued at £300 each melted down. I then received an email from them saying having calculated everything I was claiming for they came up with a very precise total of £82.70. I asked them to send me a photocopy of my Original list of items. I was informed the Original envelope and list were thrown away the moment my Gold was melted. So how did they come up with this precise figure of £82.70.

And although it is less than a tenth of what they owe me, how is it so much more than their original valuation of £16.40?  When I asked them, they did not reply. I sent them five emails asking them for some proof they have of the way in which they valued my Gold Jewellery, each saying the SAME thing, before 7pm, after which their Offices are closed until Monday. They deliberately did not reply to a single one, so yet again I am left this weekend to stress about the outcome.

I think this is one of the biggest Frauds being perpetuated on a member of the public, and as I have an email from them dated Oct.15th 2009 telling me my Jewellery is STILL missing, and am in possession of their original Cheque dated Oct.7th 2009, I intend to take them to Court. If you have any advice of how I could further expose what this Company has done to me, and possibly countless others, I would be extremely grateful to you.

Postal Gold

Anonymous — Wed, 18/11/2009 - 11:16pm

I sent 14 items to Postal Gold and recieved from them a cheque for £114.00 I contacted them that evening and told them of my dissatification I was told to send the cheque back and I would receive the gold back. I sent the cheque and covering letter back to them the next day by recorded delivery and during the following week I received my items back. I then took the items into a High Street jewellers and had a valuation done and  it has come back over £700.00 I will receive my monies by transfer at the end of the week.

I am totally dissatified with the way that Postal Gold value the gold and that you do not receive a valuation before they send you a cheque.

Hi Karen,

You will not get a true value for you gold at postal gold.

You have a cooling of period and I would request your gold back ASAP.

The true value for 9ct gold is about £7.90 a gram.

Tel no is 0800 007 6260

I would weigh the gold and find out what they have paid you per gram and report them to trading standards. These companies need to be stopped.

If you require any further assistanc let me know.

Good Luck

Sinbad
