Mailbox Nationwide paid me £2.48 per hour but advertise at the NMW
Anonymous — Sun, 31/07/2011 - 1:48pm
I applied for a job with Mailbox Nationwide after seeing them advertise in the local Jobcentre. The job was advertised at the NMW for 25 hours over a 7 day temp contract. When I was offered the work they offered it at £62 for 3000 leaflets which when I had done them worked out at 27 hours over 7 days and therefore £2.48 per hour. I wrote to the Jobcentre and the NMW helpline but to no avail and for no real response. One response I did get from the Jobcentre - although they seem to have stopped dealing with the matter said the company had been given a 'clean bill of health' from the HMRC - and that's for paying £2.48 per hour!

The HMRC did eventually get
Anonymous (not verified) — Sat, 13/08/2011 - 9:47pmThe HMRC did eventually get in touch me over the low payment by Mailbox Nationwide and said they're bringing a case but the officer who contacted me first of all left a message with her forename and surname and then the second message she left she wanted to be addressed formally. This change makes me feel like they are still not going to do anything. I also haven't received the contact details she said she would send me.
The Government - no matter which party is in - is very poor at dealing with complaints to the point where their dealing with them amounts to nothing.
Once the meeting with HMRC
Anonymous (not verified) — Sun, 18/12/2011 - 7:33pmOnce the meeting with HMRC and Mailbox Nationwide took place I had to ring for the result which was that Mailbox Nationwide were found to be in the right as they take people on on a self-employed basis although I recently saw an ad by them and they still advertise at NMW, so they don't seem too honest. I really don't like companies which are difficult and most of them are including Mailbox Nationwide and the HMRC. It seems that I am considered wrong to want the NMW which the job was and is advertised at and one of our local councillors last year said 'people who pay peanuts only get monkeys' so I am considered a monkey now as well as not being paid the rate the job was advertised at. I have heard nothing further from HMRC or the Jobcentre to whom I wrote since last December - just to show you how difficult it is to get justice in this world.
