Business Review: Doubletake Studios
Anonymous — Wed, 06/01/2010 - 8:16pm
Doubletake Studios called me about 4 weeks ago and told me my sister-in-law had given me a free gift to have a makeover and photo shoot so I thought that was nice, so I took it then after a few days after I was at home with my cousin and a call came through and he wanted to book a date then he said he needs a £2.00 booking fee and I got weary because of what my cousin said to me that I must be careful because it may not be free so I said to you are only taking for only this amount and only this was to be take and they will not take no more than that, they did not ask or tell me that they would hold on to my debit card details and take more without my permission that was not stated and free means free, he even said to me that I can invite another person with me and I choose my mum to come with me, but over the weekend on the 8th my mum sufferred a severe asthma attack and all less priorities went out the window and it was to look after my mum,
Confirmation booking papers came on the 10th November and my booking was for the 12th but because of what happened I did not think about it, the a week after that on the 18th I realised a substantial amount of money was missing from my account and that was my money to pay my bills and get food and gas, electricity and it was gone, I phoned the bank to find out who it was and my money manager told me that it was doubletake they had taken £198 without my permisssion and put it down as sales and services when they did not provide me with this the first transaction of £2.00 had the same description.
The reason why I did not read the terms and condidtions on the internet because I thought there was no reason as this is a gift from my sister-in-law so it does not apply to me and when I came home the monday for a change of clothes I received the double take booking confirmation also but did not read it until this had happened and realised that I had been duped into something that I could not afford and did not tell me that they will be hold my debit details to take out more money. When they called they told me this was a free gift so I should not be paying nothing for this as this was a gift,
I have emailed them several times and will send you copied of these because this is not justified and if they had sent the paper work when they did I would of had time to read the terms and conditions and be able to make the decision to cancel because I don't think it is ethical for a business to dup people into getting a photo shoot worse this is credit crunch time do you think I have a £198 to throw away to a stupid photo shoot, if this was told to me I would of been able to make the decision not to especially if I had knowledge of them holding onto my card without my permission.
I have got my sister-in-law to write a letter confirming that is was a gift and my cousin who was with me when they called because I had them on loud speaker and she could hear what they were saying.
All I want is my money back they did not sell me a sale or give me a service they were trusted that they were to only to take out £2 and no more than that. so did not ask for permission to hold onto my card and if that was allowed wouldn't other creditors especially ballifs would hold on to your credit card if that was ethical and legal they had not the permission to take out any more than they should and they told me that it was a gift from my sister-in-law.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ITS A
Anonymous — Tue, 18/01/2011 - 10:58amDO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ITS A COMPLETE SCAM UNLESS YOU WANT TO SHED OUT IN EXCESS OF £300 FOR NOT EVEN GOING!!!! THEY BNOOK YOU IN FOR A CHEAP DEPOSIT, SAYING A FRIEND RECOMENDED YOU, THEY SAY YOU CAN CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND, THEY FAIL TO MENTION THAT IF YOU DO IT WILL COST YOU £250! IF YOU DO END UP GOING, THEY WILL NOT LET YOU LEAVE! BASICALLY THEY HOLD YOU HOSTAGE UNTIL YOU COUGH UP AT LEAST £400! THEY USE PRESSURE SALES TACTICS AND TAKE MONEY FROM PEOPLES ACCOUNTS WITHOUT PERMISSION!! SCAMMERS!! HANG UP IF THEY CALL YOU!!
Ah you see, i dont think they
Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 23/06/2011 - 2:29pmAh you see, i dont think they are very knest with their 'Fines' As i was told that no show, or more than 15 mins late, or even leaving befor the 5 hours is up will incur a £125 fee each, there were 4 of us going, so that would have been £600!! for being late. They then messed us around and we nearly incured that fee anyway because they tried to blame us for their mistakes. the overall day was good. I WOULDNT reccomend it as it is a majour rip off and they will try and scam you any way they can. and they are clever at this and will probably suceed. Also ignore the good comments on their websites as most of them are written by staff!
I went to doubletake studios
Laura (not verified) — Sat, 13/08/2011 - 9:04pmI went to doubletake studios in June with a good friend who needed some cheering up. To be fair the days experience was pretty good, but they were extremely pushy when it came to purchasing photographs. Funny, when they clearly state there is no obligation to buy!!! The lady I had was trying to talk me into setting up a monthly payment for photos and thought it was hilarious when I told her I couldn't as I was saving for a wedding commenting... "Oh, well whats £15 a month gonna do???" Bearing in mind this is over 2 years!! Anyways, she claims she got me the best deal possible and I did stupidly purchase, as did my friend. we were told the photos would be with us within 28 days, and we had to pay a £8 postage fee. Well over a month later and neither of us had still received our photos. On the day I was going to contact them I received them. Honestly I wasn't overly impressed considering the amount of money I had paid and I was utterly fuming to find that the photos I recieved on disc... weren't actually me!!! I have recieved some other poor girls photos bearing in mind them actually printed my full name on the disc and I had other printed photos in the box... bit obvious were not the same person!! I am planning on calling and giving them a piece of my mind and demanding some sort of refund!! I wouldn't bother doing this and certainly wouldn't recommend it... utterly disappointed! And its safe to say the experience didn't cheer my friend up!!!
So it's not a scam? I booked
Anonymous (not verified) — Wed, 09/11/2011 - 1:05pmSo it's not a scam?
I booked mine at the end of October, got all booking papers through, booked the double money thing, just had a call sayiong they have an error in the studios, and will have to rebook when their systems are up and running?
My mother is now worried as the money came out today, and I got a call to cancel the day to rebook when the system was up and running again....

Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 10/11/2011 - 1:14pmI would be very wary of using Double Take Studios as I understand that they have just gone into Administration on 10th November and will be closing down. Their website is also down at the moment.
Be warned and if you are tempted to make a payment to this firm, ensure you use a credit card so you are protected under S75 of the Consumer Credit Act in case the business fails.

They cancelled my day at on
Anonymous (not verified) — Tue, 15/11/2011 - 1:08pmThey cancelled my day at on 6th Nov saying that there were waterworks outside the Manchester Studio and due to H&S could not do the shoot, they tried to get me to rebook another day but I don't have any time to rebook. I had just paid for doublemoney the morning of the day they rang and said that I would get a full refund. Doesn't look like I'm getting my money back as I paid with my Visa Debit card. Lesson learned!

That's what happened to me
Anonymous (not verified) — Tue, 15/11/2011 - 1:26pmThat's what happened to me too. Paid £300 for Double Money at Farringdon, London, then got a call few days after saying they had problems with their servers etc.
I paid with Visa Debit too. You're defo covered with Visa credit card. However, if you call your bank and explain they can help, there is a kind of Visa Debit cover, where you can claim back.
Basically they haven't gone into admin yet. As soon as it says on the Companies House web site that they've gone into administration, you can claim back through Visa, via your bank. You'll get sent a form asking you for documents on the company going bust.

Anonymous (not verified) — Wed, 16/11/2011 - 6:00pmIt was on their system. When I rang them I just said that I was still waiting for my pictures and I didnt want to start paying for them if I hadnt recieved them. He had a look which took a couple of minutes and he started to say that nothing was on thier system to say anything had happened then he found it. Double take studio's have gone into adminisration. I then had to start a complaint throught Barclays which took a couple of minutes and was then told I will be contacted within 24hours for the next step. According to the man at Barclays they had been inmformed a couple of days ago.

Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 17/11/2011 - 11:35amI was a makeup artist who worked at Doubletake Studios Birmingham! All these comments about it being a scam are totally wrong - but I can confirm as of 15/11/2011 Doubletake Studio went into administration. All the staff have lost their jobs and I honestly doubt you will get your prints or money back, as we are all owed wages from October and start of November!
Thank you for letting us all
Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 17/11/2011 - 11:43amThank you for letting us all know. I never thought for once it was a scam. I feel very sorry for all the staff that have lost their jobs. Im just hoping I can get this agreement cancelled with barclays as I really dont want to pay for stuff I haven't got and I dont want it to affect my credit. Very gutted tho ~I wont be getting my pictures as they were so lovely and I was really impressed with them.....:(

Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 17/11/2011 - 12:24pmYou wont get prints or even a disk as there are no staff to do that for you.
We was called last weds evening 9/11/11 and were told we no longer had a job & of 10/11/11 the studios up & down the country would be closed! I can appreciate your annoyed & want your pictures, but think of the staff who are owed thousands of pounds in wages - myself included!
In all due respect to the
Kat (not verified) — Thu, 17/11/2011 - 7:31pmIn all due respect to the poster above, yeah you need your wages, at least you'll GET that money sooner or later. There's now people who have probably paid out thousands for your 'elite' packages in the £1000 or more region who now will NOT get their photos and STILL have to pay out the money to Barclays or Easypay/whatever the other one was. I got lucky in the fact that I was at mine in October and received my photo package straight after, even though i'm still technically owed a large portrait. I didn't pay out £1200 for half an order, so I will be straight on the phone back to Barclays tomorrow to get a complaint put in, as there shouldn't have even been a PROBLEM with getting that printed and sent out! The fact that Barclays are ringing up all Barclays customers associated with Doubletake asking if their orders have been fulfilled means they're serious about it, and damn right they should be. I got lucky pretty much, but if I got properly caught out, i'd be fuming right about now.
We aren't guaranteed our
Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 17/11/2011 - 8:00pmWe aren't guaranteed our wages as we are all freelancers so have to claim for our pay and will ONLY get paid if the government think we have a valid claim. At the end of the day no one could predict this was going to happen - it's another company who has gone into administration because of the recession! Surely Barclays have some sort of insurance to help those who have taken out finance plans. It is an awful situation for everyone involved!
I was due to have an appt on
Anonymous (not verified) — Sun, 04/12/2011 - 7:56pmI was due to have an appt on 13th nov and had the phonecall stating that there was a problem with the servers so would have to re-arrange my appt at a later date. I stated that as my appt was due in the 2 days following i was expecting the £40, which i had put down as a deposit - back into my account that weekend, so would it be possible as it was their error to receive the deposit back and cancel the appt, i mean if i had tried to re-arrange the appt for some reason tht close to the appt then i would have been charged a fee so why was it they could do it to me? The guy told me i would have to wait until they contacted me to have another appt so i said i wasnt interested and wanted my money back which he told me i couldnt do. Okay i understand that the people who worked there were owed money, but why should unsuspecting "customers" have to loose money?? The guy phoned me on the 11th november, and i understand they went into admin on the 15th, so why couldnt he offer me my money back then, pretty much knowing that I was being lied to and scammed. I thought it all sounded a bit odd when i received the phonecall, if it wasnt for the fact my mum and auntie had a good experience i would have hung up there and then, as the sales person was extremely pushy. I paid by a visa debit, does this mean i cannot claim back? Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on what i could do, as it may only be £40 but thats alot of money for me to have paid out for nothing.
Thanks,
One very Pee'd off "Customer".
