Business Review: Amber Windows

trevastin — Mon, 04/01/2010 - 3:48pm

This company should belong in the rogue traders gallery for the Midlands. To see why read what they did to my Aunt below.

My Aunt is an 82 year old widow. Several weeks ago a AMBER window fitter working in the area knocked on her door and asked if she was interested in windows. She said NO. He said if she said YES then he would get a BONUS. She then said YES and signed a form. Unknowingly she signed a request for a sales person to visit. 2 days later an Asian sales woman turned up and tried to tell her that the whole house needed new windows and doors. Bear in mind she already has UPVC about 15 years old.

Eventually after 2 1/2 hours she convinced my aunt that the front bay window and upstairs main bedroom window needed replacing. Initial quotation £7500.00 my aunt said NO then after another hour she agreed to have the 2 windows replaced for £4,100.00 just by chance I visited my Aunt the following Saturday and she told me what had happened and showed me the prices. I went ballistick as you dont expect so called reputable companies to do this to nieve little old ladies.

On returning home I e-mailed cancelling the order and also sent a registered letter on Monday cancelling. On Tuesday my Aunt received a aggresive phone call from the shop manager saying you cant cancel, you signed to agree we could manufacture. This is illegal as she had a cooling off period. She phoned me and I have since contacted them telling them to deal with me in future. No manager was prepared to talk to me. Samantha in customer services helped but so far 3 weeks on we are still awaiting the deposit. Trading Standards say they have a bad reputation for this type of thing and that they break the law with the selling tacticks and the cooling off period which should be made clear. Ask them yourselves if you dont believe me.

Since then I have been quoted by a Tamworth company £1,500.00 for the same work. £2,600 cheaper than these rogue traders

This company is located throughout the Midlands stealing money from older and fragile people, help me put a stop to it and please write your review.

I had an Amber Windows

Anonymous (not verified) — Wed, 15/06/2011 - 7:05pm

I had an Amber Windows representative at my door this afternoon, and informed him that, whereas we were not interested in replacing windows at this stage, as we have a family wedding to be financed in the near future, but would be happy to consider Amber Windows at a later date. He would not take no for an answer, so I eventually said that, on second thoughts, we were not interested. I heard a perfectly clear "Fuck you!" as I closed the door! Perhaps a little more training is required for this rep!?

I live in a no cold calling

Anonymous (not verified) — Fri, 12/08/2011 - 4:18pm

I live in a no cold calling area due to there being a lot of elderly people who have been burgled by cold callers. Most sales people respect this sign but there are the few like Amber Windows who ignore it. In addition I have a no cold calling sign on my door. Did this stop Amber windows from calling today. No it did not. The salesman even pointed out that he had seen the sign, was sorry but he was not selling. He then went on with his sales patter and there was no doubt that he was selling. What kind of company disrespects these signs. All it has done to me is make me avoid the company like the plague and when I do need new windows they will be the last on my list.

If u need to know they use

Anonymous (not verified) — Wed, 12/10/2011 - 10:59am

If u need to know they use the telephone directory to make all these call, and a map for door to door, which they shouldnt, if u want to confirm that, just go thru the phone list just asking if they got recently call from Amber Windows that will confirm it...

i had a pushy salesman round

Anonymous (not verified) — Thu, 08/12/2011 - 12:41pm

i had a pushy salesman round to give me a quote i needed the windows and doors doing and actually thought it was a fare price as the price also included 2 lintels but i needed 4 so got the others done free so this equaled up the price from over priced to about right as the lintel work and brickwork removal was very extensive so got my monies worth....however it was the shoddy workmanship and the fact that years later they still havent been back to carry out repairs that have made me so cross...they keep calling me to see if i need any more windows fitting but cant come and sort out the ones that they fitted badly....am just going to try and get someone out again, i wont hold my breath......
